Tammany Hills Baptist Church

What to Expect
What to Wear
Feel free to dress up or come casual. We believe that God looks at what is in our hearts and not what is on our bodies.
Where to Park
Feel free to park anywhere on the gravel or the grass. In the front or in the back. The only place that would be a bad idea to park is in the construction area.
What is up with the Construction Area?
We recently demolished our old education building that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ida. We are currently in the process of building a new building, so please pardon the progress!
Sunday School at 10am.
Because we only have one building and we are extremely limited on space we have a family style Sunday School. We are having Sunday School in the sanctuary for now. Everyone over the age of 5 has Sunday School in the same room. The littles do have their own program in the next room. When you first show up, men and boys will sit on one side of the church and women and girls will sit on the other side of the church. We take about 5 to 10 minutes for prayer requests. Then one man prays for the men and a woman prays for the women. (We won't put you on the spot to pray!)
After this you will sit with your family. If you are a single or you don't have kids you will be "adopted" into a family for the morning. We will give everyone time to get the Church Center App open and the lesson pulled up. You can get a head start by downloading the Church Center App and getting registered by clicking here.
From here we will begin our Sunday School Lesson. The lesson is interactive with a lot of discussion with your family. The lessons are designed to promote family discipleship and help families grow closer to Christ together.
Once the lesson is over the family groups will pray together to be dismissed for worship service.
Worship Service 11am.
As you show up for the 11 am worship service just come right into the sanctuary. We may be finishing up Sunday School, but you won't bother us. Before the service you will likely be greeted by one of our church members who will ask you to fill out a visitor's card or an electronic visitor form. Chat and make some new friends! You can sit anywhere we do not have assigned seats.
Welcome and Announcements
The very first thing that will happen is we will have a very brief period of welcome and announcements.
Call to Worship
Once we have the announcements out of the way we actually begin our worship service with a call to worship. Each month our worship leader selects a passage of scripture that will act as the theme of our worship for that month. In the call to worship that passage of scripture is read aloud and we have a time of prayer. The purpose of this is to prepare our hearts and minds for worship. We use this time to focus our attention on the God of the universe of whom we are about to sing to!
Corporate Worship
From here we will begin our time of worship. Our worship style is mostly contemporary. The worship atmosphere that we attempt to achieve is one that creates personal worship in a public space. In other words we strive to create an environment where each person is free to worship God as an individual, but together with the rest of the group.
The music is loud to encourage the congregation to sing out and loud. The lights are dimmed so that the individual worshiper does not feel like there is a spotlight shining on them as they worship and to help create an atmosphere of individual personal worship.
We will not take pictures of you while you worship. (This is one of Pastor Trey's pet peeves!)
We are very careful to sing songs that are God and Gospel centered and not human centered. In other words, we sing about who God is and what God has done, not how we feel and what we expect God to do for us.
Children will stay in the worship service during this time. If they dance around that is fine!
The words of the songs will be on the screens and then songs will be relatively easy to sing. We encourage you to sing out and focus on singing the words of the song directly to God!
You are free to raise hands, kneel down, even shout out during worship. However, our worship team will not pressure you to do any of these things.
Tithes and Offerings
During the last worship song we will take up an offering. We will pass offering plates around. If you are visiting with us we do not expect you to give anything, however, you are welcome to if the Lord is leading you.
Children's Church
During the sermon any child who is under the age of 5 can go back to our children's church. We would prefer that any child 5 and older stay in the service to hear the sermon. Pastor Trey is extremely engaging even for little children and he is mindful to keep the subject matter PG.
The Sermon
After this Pastor Trey (our preaching elder) will deliver the sermon. Pastor Trey is what is called an expository preacher. That means that he will typically go to one passage of scripture and systematically preach through that passage.
The sermons are typically around 45 minutes long. (We have really comfy chairs.)
Pastor Trey is engaging and energetic, but he does not sugar coat the word of God.
Call to Action / Invitation
Once the sermon is over the worship team will come back to the stage and play one more song. During this time you will be invited to respond to God. The front will be open for prayer, counseling, or decisions; however, we do not pressure people to come forward.
Closing Prayer and Scripture
After this we have one more prayer and then we all say a verse of scripture that will be on the monitors.
The Lord's Supper/Communion
We take the Lord's Supper once every quarter. We practice what is called an open communion. This means that we evite people who are not members of our church to have communion with us. However, there are some things that will we ask of a person before they partake:
-
The person has been born again.
-
The person has been baptized as a believer after they were born again.
-
The person has taken time to search their heart and have confessed any sins that they are aware of.
Before the Lord's Supper we always give time for confession and repentance. This is a time for personal soul searching and private repentance. This is a time for you to pray to God and asked forgiveness for any sins that you have committed.
Dinner on the Ground
From time to time we will have dinner on the Ground. If you happen to visit on a Sunday we are having dinner on the ground we would love for you to stay and eat! Even if you didn't bring any food we would love for you to be our guest!
